The morning commute should be a little easier today, although it will be colder. The snow is gone, unless you count the blowing snow on the ground, but drivers are reminded to leave a little earlier, slow down, and stay off the cell phones while they drive. Roadways are partly snow covered thanks to the continued wind overnight, but all are passable.

The cold and windy conditions are the main reasons Jersey County Highway Engineer Tom Klasner says they aren't using many chemical on their roads.

Klasner comment

Black ice could still be a problem this morning, so be especially careful on bridges and overpasses, as well as interstate entrance and exit ramps. There were numerous instances of cars off the roadway throughout the Metro East on Thursday, and major delays on the St. Louis side after MoDOT got caught a little behind the storm, adding hours to some morning commutes.
