The Casino Queen in East St. Louis could be the next owner of Fairmount Park Race Track in Collinsville, if Illinois lawmakers approve slot machines at racetracks. The two companies announced a sale agreement on Tuesday pending the approval of a new state gaming law.
CQ Holdings, the owner of the Casino Queen, announced it had reached an agreement with Fairmount Park Holdings to purchase the racetrack, and would keep the racetrack’s current management team in place. Republican State Representative Dwight Kay of Glen Carbon likes the idea:

Illinois lawmakers are currently looking at a new law that would expand gambling and allow for new casinos, mainly in the northeast part of the state in and around Chicago. One version of the law would also allow for slots machines at race tracks, a rule that the Casino Queen previously opposed and one that Fairmount officials said was crucial to the track’s survival. The Illinois Gaming Board would also have to approve the sale.
