The Illinois Treasurer's Office is giving away more money. During his first year in office, the Cash Dash program returned more than 101-million dollars in unclaimed property to their rightful owners-a new record. That number has, in the past, been around 80-million a year.

In addition, the number of web searches went up by two-point-two million over 2010. Unclaimed property includes money transferred from inactive bank accounts, stocks or bonds, or safe deposit box contents. Rutherford has visited 98 communities across Illinois to help boost awareness of the program.
