The state’s contract with 50,000 home care and child care workers expires next month and the union is publicly trashing what it’s being offered. SEIU Healthcare workers rallied at the Capitol Thursday over the contract concessions being asked for by the administration, which include reduced benefits and less money for training programs. “We fought together, through our union, for years to get health coverage, to get better training we need, and secure our right to have a union and have a voice on the job,” Newman said, “and now Bruce Rauner wants to take all of this away.”
The union’s contract with the state is set to expire June 30, but no further talks have been scheduled until a week before that date.
