Although the number of crashes between motorists and deer is declining, officials still urge caution this time of year. There were more than 17,000 deer-vehicle crashes last year in Illinois. Most were on rural roads, when it was dark.
State Department of Transportation spokesperson Josh Kauffman has these tips for avoiding a deer collision.
And if you see one deer, more are likely to follow. The counties with the most deer crashes last year were Cook, Madison, Peoria, Sangamon, and Will.
