A public vigil will be held this evening in Alton for fallen St. Louis County Police Officer Blake Snyder. Members of the Alton High School Class of 2001 are organizing the event that will be held at Public School Stadium on State Street beginning at 7pm.
Snyder was a member of the graduating class, grew up in Godfrey and also attended Evangelical School. There will be a candlelight portion of the evening, remarks from close friends, a presentation by the Alton Police Department Honor Guard, a video to celebrate Blake's life, an a balloon release. Donations will also be accepted at the event to support his surviving wife and young son. His funeral visitation will take place Wednesday afternoon and evening in St. Louis County and his funeral will be held Thursday. Burial is taking place at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey and local residents are invited to line the highway from Clifton Terrace Road to the cemetery on Thursday afternoon as the funeral procession passes by. An exact time is still to be determined but could be anytime between Noon and 2pm. Officer Snyder was shot and killed in the line of duty last Thursday morning after responding to the report of a disturbance at a home in Green Park, Missouri. An 18 year old from south St. Louis County is facing a charge of first degree murder.
