The redistricting in Illinois has moved some incumbents into new territory, and opened up congressional races statewide. One of those is the 13th Congressional District. Some of the area used to be represented by John Shimkus of Collinsville, but Tim Johnson has been thrust into the role of incumbent. Matt Goetten is among the challengers looking to take his seat.
Goetten, currently Greene County States Attorney, says Johnson is playing political games instead of focusing on economic issues.
He says he will work to make sure common sense solutions are put into place that invest in regular Illinois workers and strengthens the economy. Goetten will face David M. Gill of Bloomington in the primary on March 20. Johson's GOP challengers will be Michael Firsching of Moro and Frank L. Metzger of Glen Carbon.
