Illinois lawmakers are planning to head back to Springfield next month in hopes of getting pension reform finalized, but several lawmakers and some candidates question the logic and the timing of the move. Governor Pat Quinn announced the August 17th special session last week, saying pension reform is the biggest challenge facing the state. Kathy Smith agrees, but thinks this should have been dealt with in regular session this spring
Smith is the Republican challenger to State Representative Dan Beiser's seat in the 111th District.
The governor believes the special session won't take long, saying pension reform should be done in one day. Beiser has claimed the governor is doing nothing more than pulling a publicity stunt.
