If you travel Interstate 270 across the Mississippi River, some lanes will be opening next week, and there will be partial closures for a couple of days as well, weather permitting. IDOT has been performing an overhaul on the bridges over the Mississippi River and the Chain of Rocks Canal, so traffic going to Missouri from Illinois will have to deal with closures on Tuesday, October 14, and in then other direction on Wednesday, assuming the rain stops long enough for crews to finish their work.
IDOT Engineer Joe Monroe says they had originally hoped to open a portion of the “New” I-270 Chain of Rocks Canal Bridge on Friday. So now, the eastbound lanes of that new bridge are supposed to open by 5:30am Monday morning.
