Alton Police teamed up with the Illinois State Police St. Patrick's Day night to conduct a roadside safety check in north Alton. Last Saturday, March 17 and into the early morning hours of March 18, police were set up at the corner of State and Elm Streets and handed out 43 citations for a variety of offenses.
Police also handed out a total of 13 written warnings. In all, 5 people were cited for DUI, there were 6 seatbelt violations, and 13 registration offenses. Some of the roadside safety checks are funded through a grant from the United States Department of Transportation, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation, division of Traffic Safety.
