The work of the Development & Housing Department in Alton is not just to attract new business to Alton. It’s also charged with keeping existing businesses happy and doing business in the city. City leaders have been reaching out recently to check the temperature of the business climate in Alton, according to the Director of the Development & Housing Department, Greg Caffey.

He says Alton Corners strip mall recently went into receivership, and is being run by a company out of Indianapolis. Caffey says all existing leases will be honored, but with that development is home to Petco, Applebee’s and Slackers not lying within an Enterprise Zone or TIF District, the amount the city can offer is limited.
