The completion of Illinois 255 has local business leaders eagerly anticipating the future. The Godfrey Village Board has taken a number of steps in recent years to make the village a more attractive place to do business, including the creation of TIF and Business Districts, and the continuing expansion of its sewer system. The head of the RiverBend Growth Association says the village has the potential to grow by leaps and bounds.
RBGA President Monica Bristow says looking ten years down the road, you might not recognize the Illinois 255 corridor of Godfrey.
Godfrey Mayor Mike McCormick has said he's hopeful of new businesses at Monticello Plaza, and hopes someone else will be able to re-open the recently closed Sonic Restaurant that was closed earlier this year after the previous owner ran into tax trouble with the state.
