Severely injured burn victims will not have to endure a previously mandatory waiting period before receiving disability benefits following the signing of the George Bailey Memorial Act by Governor Bruce Rauner on Friday.

The law removes the mandatory five-month waiting period applied to Social Security Disability Income claims. The measure was sponsored by State Representative Jay Hoffman (D-Belleville). He says this will help ensure more families receive appropriate benefits as soon as possible.
