Springfield Diocese Bishop Thomas Paprocki has given the board of trustee's at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Brussels permission to rebuild the parish within the walls remaining after the Christmas Eve fire that destroyed much of the church. Now members are beginning to gather old photos of the church to assist the board of trustees as they search for an architect for the project.

No timetable has been announced for construction to begin, but supports have been added to the structure to ensure safety as they begin to clear the fire damaged chapel. Trustees have also scheduled a visit to Holy Trinity Church in Mount Olive to see if the stained glass windows from the recently closed church could be used in the restoration project.

Members of the parish are also planning a fund-raiser to help alleviate some of the costs of construction. Anyone wishing to donate to St. Mary's Restoration Fund can send their contribution to P.O. Box 38, Brussels, IL 62013.
