There are still plans on the drawing board to modify the appearance and possibly the feel of the entrance to Alton from the Clark Bridge. Many have sais the city needs to clean up the area and put on it's best face for visitors entering the state at that location, and an effort called Bridge West was put together several years ago to address the possibilities.
One of the biggest requests during the early stages was to find a way to slow traffic on Piasa Street between Broadway and 9th Street. The city's Rhonda Lewis says there are plans to do that, but they need IDOT approval to move forward.
The appearance part of the plan has been addressed in bits and pieces. One of the biggest efforts was completed a couple of years ago with a mural of a riverboat painted on the side of a downtown building, sponsored by the Alton-Godfrey Rotary Club.
