The second phase of demolition of the Old Chain of Rocks Canal Bridge is slated for tomorrow and the Illinois Department of Transportation is giving motorists a heads up about a closure related to the project. IDOT Supervising Field Engineer Barry Gibbs tells The Big Z that both lanes of I-270 in Granite City will be closed for about two hours starting at 10 a.m. Tuesday to allow for the demolition of the old westbound Chain of Rocks Canal Bridge.
Gibbs says a limited public viewing area will be set up at the east end of the Old Chain of Rocks Road Mississippi Canal Bridge.

During the closure, westbound traffic will be guided on to Illinois Route 3 while eastbound traffic is detoured onto Riverview Boulevard. Gibbs recommends using an alternate route to avoid delays if you plan to travel through the area and adds that additional closures for the project will be announced in the near future.
