Boeing says some St. Louis employees may be forced to take furloughs because of the government shutdown. Boeing's Defense, Space and Security Division is based in St. Louis, and some employees have already been forced from their worksites. Other employees have said work is being done, but federal inspectors haven't signed off on certain projects.
Boeing hasn't said how many of the 15,000 employees based in St. Louis may be forced to take time off. The Defense, Space and Security Division is responsible for about 40% of Boeing's 2012 revenue of $81.7-billion.
