The body of the person who jumped from the Old Chain of Rocks Bridge last month has been identified as that of a Granite City man. The Madison County Coroner’s Office reports the body of 40-year-old Joseph A. Frazier was discovered and recovered from the Mississippi River on Wednesday by the Low Water Dam near Granite City.
Madison Police, along with other local agencies, were able to recover the body. According to the Madison County Coroner, Frazier jumped from the Old Chain of Rocks Bridge in Madison on September 26th. According to police interviews conducted at the time, he had talked about jumping from the bridge many times as a teenager, and told his girlfriend he was going to do it again. After he did so, the girlfriend saw him resurface briefly before he disappeared under the water again. Frazier had not threatened suicide, according to the information provided by the coroner’s office. Routine toxicology testing for the presence of alcohol and drugs is pendin.
