The Madison County Board has a new member. William Gushleff of Granite City received the unanimous approval of the board at its meeting this week to fill the vacancy in District 19. He will serve until a new member is elected this fall and takes office in December.
Gushleff takes over for Terry Davis who resigned last year. Davis was a Democrat on the board so a member of the same party must be appointed. Although there are three candidates vying for the Democratic nomination in the March primary, Board Chairman Alan Dunstan opted to choose someone not on the ballot. Those running for the seat in March are Harry Briggs, Donna Davis and Michael Charles Parkinson on the Democratic side, and Republican Kathy Goclan. Gushleff has lived in Madison and Granite City, has been a teacher for more than 30 years and has served on the nameoki township board and also on the Madison City Council.
