Officials in the Alton School District got a jump-start on the 2013-14 school year last night by appointing three employees to new positions for next school year. The board voted unanimously to appoint JoAnne Curvey as principal at Gilson Brown Elementary. Latasha Porter, who is currently an assistant principal at Alton Middle school, was named as new principal at Lewis & Clark Elementary, and Ann McLaughlin was named assistant principal at North.
District Superintendent Dr. Ken Spells says he is excited about all of the hires and that he expects McLaughlin to have a significant effect at North:
Spells also says that promoting from within reflects the type of employees the district has:
Mary Pat Venardos, the current principal at Gilson Brown, and Sue Schmidt from North will both be retiring at the end of this school year. McLaughlin will fill the opening created by Cindy Inmann, who is moving on to become the kindergarten-through-fifth-grade curriculum coordinator. The promotions take effect July 1.
