It's the final summer Block Party tomorrow in downtown Alton with festivities kicking off at 4pm along West Third Street. Music is the focus once again, with Jake's Leg headlining the Saturday night activities. There will be two other acts to get the day started.
The music begins at 4pm with "Hot Brass" - the U.S. Air force Band of Mid-America, followed by the Alton Symphony Quartet playing orchestral versions of Beatles & Grateful Dead songs. That will run from 6:15 - 6:45. Alton Main Street Executive Director Sara McGibany says many families will make a day of it.
She says the plan to cut back from six block parties to three this year has been a success. She says the fewer number of options to get to a block party has made them "must-attend" events for many.
