About 2,000 employees at the Granite City Works location of U.S. Steel avoided the unemployment line last month, after the parent company changed its mind about temporarily shuttering the facility.  A pair of United States congressmen will be at the plant today to talk about measures being taken to help ensure the American steel industry stays strong

U.S. Representatives Mike Bost (IL-12) and Rodney Davis (IL-13) say recent legislative efforts will halt illegal dumping of foreign steel in American markets.  Davis tells The Big Z there is legislation in the pipeline that could help prevent situations like what has transpired over the past couple of months.

United State Steel Corporation had originally planned to lay-off 2,080 workers as part of a consolidation of its North-American Flat-Rolled operations.  Davis and Bost will start the day with a visit to Alton Steel on Cut Street.
