Illinois State Police discovered their own "cash dash" last weekend during a traffic stop near Highland. Authorities pulled over a purple Dodge Durango after a trooper witnessed an improper lane change and asked to search the vehicle. Upon looking inside, police found $300,000 cash in 30 small bundles hidden inside two boxes.
The money was inside boxes with home audio equipment. Police say the driver said he had no knowledge about the money and sighed a waiver allowing police to seize the money. He was later questioned and released. The Metropolitan Enforcement Group of Southwestern Illinois and the Drug Enforcement Administration is assisting with the investigation. The traffic stop took place last Saturday around 9:45am on I-70.
