There have been plans for over a year to establish a dog park in Alton, and those behind the effort in Alton remind the public that they are moving at a steady pace toward completion. Russell Commons Park will soon see the fencing go up, allowing the dogs to run free. The Alton City Council Committee of the Whole could approve a contract next Monday at its regular meeting.
Alton Park & Recreation Executive Director Rhonda Lewis says they hope to open the park by the end of September at the latest, and requested bids for three different types of fence.
Only one company submitted bids this time. Belleville Fence submitted bids of $58,539 for the vinyl coat fence, $43,191 for the galvanized option, and $51,028 for a combination of the two.
