Bethalto’s fire chief, who was also the zoning administrator, has stepped down and an acting fire chief was appointed at the monthly Bethalto Village Board meeting last night. A new zoning administrator was also appointed and a new trash pickup schedule was approved. Among other reports the treasurer gave an update on some financial issues addressed at the last board meeting.
The village board voted to go to once a week trash pickup from twice a week. Municipal Contract Manager for Republic Services Susan Piazza tells The Big Z what the new schedule will be starting November 2nd:

Former Fire Chief and Zoning Administrator Richard Mersinger submitted a letter of resignation for personal reasons, according to Mayor Alan Winslow. Winslow appointed Alex Campbell as acting fire chief and Tim Brown as Zoning Administrator. Village Treasurer Joe Schoppet tells The Big Z the loan payment to the bank that was payed twice in September was refunded in full. However, he says the budget will show a loss due to the first payment of $160,000 against the $5 million loan for the new water plant which was and will be made every six months.
