Wet weather cut short a ceremony last night at Civic Memorial High School that marked the 14th anniversary of the 9-11 terrorist attacks. The plot involved four hijacked passenger jets and left nearly three thousand people dead in New York City, the Pentagon and in a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
Some local high school students, who were toddlers at the time, took time to place 2, 977 flags on the CM football field in Bethalto in honor of the lives that were lost. Civic Memorial High School Principal Justin Newell tells The Big Z it’s important for the students to remember the sacrifice:

This year’s 9-11 anniversary will also marks three years since a terrorist attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya. Four Americans were killed, including U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens.
