The cost of local government in one metro-east community has been reduced after a measure sponsored by a Belleville Democrat was signed into law last week. House Bill 3693 will allow for the dissolution of Belleville Township, pending the vote on an ordinance by the Belleville Township Board and Belleville City Council.
Bill sponsor, State Representative Jay Hoffman (D-Belleville) says the measure received bi-partisan support in both the House and Senate.

If the two bodies approve the dissolution ordinance, it will reduce the operating expense of local government in Belleville by $288,000 by consolidating Belleville Township into the City of Belleville.
