Cracking down on waste and fraud in state programs continues to be a focus of State Representative Dan Beiser. He has helped pass legislation to strengthen penalties against those who defraud Medicaid. He says fraud within the system hurts taxpayers across the state and cannot be tolerated.
Senate Bill 1330 broadens civil penalties for Medicaid providers and others who knowingly commit Medicaid fraud, including lying to receive benefits, overbilling and participating in kickback schemes. If signed by the governor, it would create penalties that can range from $10,000 to $50,000 for each false claim of goods or services provided by Medicaid.
