As lawmakers in Springfield continue to wrestle over gun rights, a local lawmaker has sponsored legislation to protect gun owners. State Representative Dan Beiser of Alton is co-sponsoring legislation to remove penalties for possession of a gun for residents who are waiting for their FOID card.
He says the bill keeps in place reasonable restrictions, but balances existing delays with the rights of law-abiding gun owners.
This proposal does not allow gun owners to purchase other guns or ammo while still waiting for their new FOID card. The legislation also does not reduce any penalties for people who do not own a gun lawfully.
