Nearly a week after the fact, Governor Pat Quinn's harsh budget stance is getting a lot of mixed reviews around the state. The governor last Wednesday outlined his budget proposal that calls for prison closures, layoffs and pension reform.
There has recently been talk from some camps about extending the 67% personal income tax increase passed a little over a year ago. Kathy Smith, a Republican Madison County Board member challenging Democrat Dan Beiser in the fall, says the governor needs to take a closer look at making the state business-friendly.
State Representative Beiser of Alton says he will not vote to extend the tax if asked, but it needs to be allowed to run its course.
Quinn says he'll have lawmakers work through the summer until the issues are addressed. You can hear the full interviews with Beiser and Smith by clicking below.
