The chief sponsor of the conceal carry bill currently sitting on the desk of Illinois Governor Pat Quinn is calling for action. Alton State Representative Dan Beiser of Alton says that the Governor should make a decision on the bill sooner rather than later as the debate on the issue continues around the state.
Part of the discussion includes a set of guidelines released by Madison County State's Attorney Tom Gibbons last week that would allow a law abiding citizen to carry a concealed weapon. Beiser says the guidelines are organized and easy to understand but that he might not be so eager to carry a concealed weapon just yet.
The Illinois State Police responded to Gibbons' statement by announcing that concealed carry is still illegal and that troopers would arrest anyone found to be carrying a concealed weapon in Illinois.
Governor Quinn has until July 9th to sign the proposed bill into law.
