Cracking down on waste and fraud in state programs continues to be a focus of State Representative Dan Beiser. He has helped pass legislation to strengthen penalties against those who defraud Medicaid and another measure he sponsored was recently signed into law.
Beiser, and Alton Democrat, says that House Bill 71 continues the on-going efforts of lawmakers to crackdown on Medicaid fraud.
The measure expands the definition so that any person, vendor, organization, agency or other entity that knowingly helps someone else obtain unauthorized public medical benefits can also be charged. Previously, only the person who knowingly obtained those benefits could be charged.
