Members of the Alton Beautification and Clean City Committee have announced plans for another work day to help continue keeping Alton clean. This time they are focusing on a couple of areas Downtown. They will be pulling weeds in the planters in the Third Street area, as well as along Broadway from near Gentelin's Restaurant west to near Lincoln-Douglas Square.
Committee Chairman Carolyn MacAfee says they have chosen these locations at this time of year due to the upcoming 175th Celebration that is expected to bring large crowds to the city later this month.
Macafee says she hopes to see a good turn out and that committee members will gather to start working at the corner of 3rd and Market Street at 3:30 on July 5, and disperse to the two areas that are being targeted. She also says that their work should only take about an hour, and encourages anyone that would like to pitch in to meet them at that time.
