Be careful with Christmas decorations this year. A handful of fires are associated with Christmas each year, and local fire chiefs don't want you to be one of them. Electrical failures and lighting malfunctions account for a third of the fires.
Officials say you should never connect more than three strands of mini-string sets. Replace any string of lights with worn or broken cords or loose bulbs. And Alton Fire Chief Bernie Sebold tells The Big Z you need to use caution when using extension cords.

Be sure to turn off the lights on the Christmas tree before going to bed. And you should always make sure your tree isn't blocking an exit, and make sure it's at least three feet from candles, fireplaces, and heaters.
