Imprisoned former Madison County Treasurer Fred Bathon could be eligible for early release. According to court documents, Bathon is currently serving his remaining sentence at a St. Louis halfway house and is scheduled for release next month, about 10 months ahead of schedule.
According to a report in the St. Louis Post Dispatch, Bathon was expected to serve at least 85-percent of his sentence and be eligible for release in March 2016, but a court document filed last year may have included a request for early release based on good behavior. Bathon has also cooperated with federal authorities on the tax rigging scheme investigation where he was convicted and sentenced to 30 months in prison starting in January 2014. He was also fined $20,000 and lost his state pension, but his early release could be a reward for working with prosecutors. The report says Bathon could be released on June 25, which would be just over half of his original sentence.
