A democratic challenger to Republican Congressman Mike Bost has announced his intention to run for his party’s nomination. 30-year-old C.J. Baricevic of Belleville made it official on Monday during a campaign rally. Baricevic becomes the first Democrat to officially announce for the 12th District seat.
Baricevic is a familiar name to St. Clair County politics. C.J. Baricevic is the son of St. Clair County Chief Judge John Baricevic, who at one time was St. Clair County Board Chairman and head of the county Democratic Party. C.J. Baricevic is an attorney, and has never run for office. He may not be the only candidate to throw his hat into the ring. St. Clair County Sheriff Rick Watson is reportedly exploring a possible run at the democratic nomination. Incumbent Republican Mike Bost is in his first term serving the 12th district.
