Alton bar and restaurant owners are not in favor of a proposed fee on gaming machines. A proposal by the Alton City Council to place a fee on each machine has been tabled until after the first of the year. While a price has not been decided upon, some in the business fear another cut into their bottom line that in many cases is already treading on thin ice.
One of those is Michael Paynic, owner of Bubby and Sissy’s.

The president of the Madison County Licensed Beverage Association pointed out that the state is exploring the possibility of taking more of a cut from the money generated from each machine, which could further cut into the revenues bar owners receive. Mayor Brant Walker says he hopes to sit down with everyone who has a stake in this and come to an agreement that is fair to all.
