As families head out on vacation this summer, the Better Business Bureau wants you to take the time to relax everything except your guard against identity theft. There are plenty of ways you can become compromised while on vacation, according to a BBB investigator.
Chris Thetford says pickpockets and other thieves often target tourist destinations, looking for travelers who may be distracted or unfamiliar with their surroundings.
He also says you should be especially careful in crowded areas or on buses or other public transportation. Thetford adds hotel, restaurant or airport wi-fi networks may have poor security, which can make checking bank accounts or other personal data risky.
