The price of gas is both going up and coming down. The statewide average is $3.78, according to the Triple-A Fuel Gauge Report. That’s up 10 cents from a month ago, but Triple-A spokesman Beth Mosher says it’s down from two weeks ago. “We’re one of the Top 10 highest average gas prices in the nation right now, but we also hold the No. 1 spot as the largest two-week decline in gas prices,” she said. That decline over the last two weeks is 16 cents.

Mosher says the price is nevertheless higher than consumers would like it to be, but it figures to come down in late September or early October, if history is a guide. Gas was 28 cents more expensive in Illinois at this time last year.
