The Godfrey Animal Control officer will retire as an employee of the village, following recent action by the Village Board. Rick French offered his services to the village for the next two years at the same annual salary he now makes. He would also help train his replacement, according to the offer shared with the board.
Trustee Jerry Gibson thinks it is a good deal for the village.
The contract runs through 2015, with an annual salary of about $69,000. French is responsible for maintaining a facility to hold the animals, a truck to do his job, and is on call 24/7, so many of the trustees sympathise with his current salary. Still, they plan on fully researching the market to see what the going price would be for competitive services once French retires.
