Illinois American Water has announced the recipients in the 2016 Firefighter Grant Program. The grant's provide financial assistance to fire and emergency organizations serving Riverbend communities. Locally, the Alton Fire Department, and the Godfrey and QEM Fire Protection Districts will receive grants of $700 each.

Illinois American Water spokesman Karen Cotton tells The Big Z Alton plans to use the money to help offset the cost of a Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus unit.

The grant's provide financial assistance to fire and emergency organizations serving Riverbend communities. Since 2010 American Water's Grant Program has awarded over $342,000.
