There will be music, patriotic speakers, and a chance to meet some of the candidates vying for election this fall at Sunday's 3rd annual American First Rally at the Alton Riverfront Amphitheater. Organizers say crowds have been growing each year since its launch in 2009, and hope with a pleasant weather forecast, the trend continues.
It is sponsored by the Alton TEA Party and other grassroots groups. Co-organizer and Jersey County Board member Ron Hennerfouth says even if you cannot attend Sunday, you should do your homework before casting a ballot in November, rather than voting straight-party.
This will be a family-friendly event, so alcohol will not be sold on the grounds, and none will be permitted to be brought in. There will be food vendors on site. The cost at the gate is $5, which will help cover expenses and raise funds for the Riverbend 9-11 Project, which assists the families of fallen military men and women.
