Close to three million customers in the Northeast and the Mid-Atlantic were in the dark last weekend following a deadly and rare late-October snowstorm. Wet, heavy snow pulled down power lines across the region, so utilities across much of the eastern half of the country pitched in to get the restoration process going, including Ameren Illinois.
Ameren Illinois spokesman Victoria Busch says our area has benefitted from mutual assistance in the past, as recently as two years ago.
Electric companies affected by significant outages frequently call on other utilities for assistance to help speed restoration. As thousands of residents out east are spending yet another day without power, more are getting impatient and frustrated. At least three people have been arrested for allegedly threatening utility workers.
