A year ago, Hurricane Irene hit the east coast, causing massive power outages. Some of the same areas were in the dark after a rogue early season snowstorm last November. In both cases, Ameren Illinois played a part in getting the lights back on, as part of their mutual assistance service. Now, Hurricane Isaac is churning up the Mississippi River Valley toward Illinois and Missouri, and the utility says it's ready.
Michael Marx, with Ameren Illinois' Emergency Response Team, says they're ready for the storm, just in case it knocks out power around here.
Marx offers a few tips to help you prepare.
Restoring power after a major storm is a complex task that must be completed as quickly as possible.
