A proposed switch of training organizations for Alton Police is on hold. The Alton City Council Committee of the Whole placed on file a resolution that would switch training from the current Mobile Training Unit to one that serves the area immediately north of Madison County. That move effectively kills the proposal for now.
Alton Police have trained with the Southwestern Illinois Law Enforcement Commission Mobile Training Unit for 42 years, but Alton Police Chief Jason Simmons said last month when the possibility came to light that Mobile Training Unit 9, which has regular classes in Quincy, Carlinville and Jerseyville, is an attractive option.

MTU 9 is based in Jerseyville. Simmons released a statement through e-mail to The Big Z stating that the department is still working out details as to where training will occur. He stressed the department as a whole is committed to the training of its officers.
