If you want to be a member of the Alton Police Department, you need to get your application in by Tuesday. The Civil Service Commission is in charge of the process of building the new pool from which to hire, and about 30 applications have been returned so far of the 200 or so applications that were taken out.
Anita McAfoos, Deputy Chief Examiner of the Civil Service Commission, says applications are due by the end of the day Tuesday at 4pm.
She stresses that this is not going to immediately mean employment, but those that pass the test on Friday will go onto an eligibility list that goes into effect in January. Any openings will be filled from that list. If you would like to apply, you must be between the ages of 21 and 35, have a high school diploma or GED, a valid drivers' license, and be ready to reside within 15 miles of the police station within 90 days of employment.
