Grants are a vital part of paying for projects in every municipality, and things are no different in Alton. The $13.85-million TIGER Grant has captured much of the attention this week, but a $92,000 PEP Grant is also in play for the coming year. The PEP, or Park Enhancement Program, Grant will fund several improvements that will show up within the next several months.
Alton Park & Recreation Deputy Director Rhonda Lewis says among the projects is the replacement of equipment at some of the baseball and softball diamonds at Gordon Moore Park.
Other projects around town include the erection of more decorative fencing at the Amphitheater. One side was closed in last year, and with the new work planned, it will free up equipment and personnel during concerts. Money will also be going toward a prairie restoration project at Gordon Moore Park, new windows at the Haskell House, and fencing at the soon-to-be dog park at Russell Commons Park.
