The Alton Branch of the NAACP's 15th annual Christmas Shopping Spree is coming up later this week and organizers say they expect to spend up to $3,500 on gifts for children in the Riverbend this year. The shopping spree will be held Wednesday at the Target store on Homer Adams Parkway and group President James Gray says they will buy up to $100 in gifts for 32 to 35 children during the event. He says the event is very important to him.

In addition to the shopping spree, organizers are also putting the final touches on another give away scheduled for this weekend. Gray says the NAACP will purchase new shoes for 50 kids at the Payless shoe store at Alton Square Mall on Saturday.

Gray says the organization is also accepting donations, which can be mailed to the Alton Branch of NAACP or picked up by him if you call ahead. Donations can be addressed to P.O. Box 1216, Alton, IL, 62002 or to contact Gray call 618-304-7655 or the NAACP office at 618-465-1621.
