The third suspect in the December 2011 murder of 23-year old Tyler D. Hoppe in Alton was taken into custody yesterday in Columbia, Missouri. The Columbia Daily Tribune reports that officers from the Columbia Police Department surrounded a home early Friday morning after receiving a tip that the suspect was in the area. After confirming the suspects identity, the newspaper reports that police took 20-year old Larry D. Belk into custody around 12:30 p.m. without incident.
Belk was wanted on a warrant for three counts of first-degree murder and attempted armed robbery. He is being held on a $1-million bond. Nigel Generally of Berkeley in North St. Louis County, Mo was arrested and charged with the same offenses last December and third 21-year-old Hosie L. Burgess, of the 2600 block of Sanford Avenue has also been charged in the murder.
All three are charged with three counts of first degree murder, although police say Burgess is being held under the accountability statute. Police don't think he was at the scene, but do believe he provided the gun and ammunition. Alton
