It’s a nearly two year prison sentence for an Alton man after police found a gun in his vehicle following a hit and run accident earlier this year. 27-year-old Shannon Musgraves was sentenced to 46 months in federal prison this week in U.S. District Court in East St. Louis. Musgraves was found guilty of unlawful possession of a firearm by a previously convicted felon.
Following the accident on March 11, the struck driver pursued Musgraves and reported the crash to police providing an address. Alton Police discovered the reported vehicle that was still hot to the touch and upon questioning Musgraves, were given permission to search his vehicle. A handgun was found lying on the front passenger seat and Musgraves was arrested and charged. In addition to the jail time, Musgraves must also serve two years of supervised release.
